KPIs
I’m a big believer in tracking data, observing patterns, and making decisions based on concrete facts. In business, this decision-making data is usually referred to as KPIs, or key performance indicators.
Data can be really useful.
But sometimes you need to know when it’s useless.
Case in point: I used to track detailed data about my workouts - exercise, weight, reps - but I did absolutely nothing with that data.
Rather, it slowed me down in the gym and made my workouts drag on longer than they needed to.
What I thought was contributing to my workout was adding absolutely nothing.
I ditched the manual data tracking, and sped up my time in the gym.
That’s the thing about performance improvement - sometimes it’s life changing, sometimes it’s just noise.
Wisdom is knowing the difference.
