Don’t Forget to Fertilize

My friend had one of the best container gardens I’ve ever seen. Bountiful flowers, elephant ear plants taller than both of us. Her tiny, jungle-like veranda was impressive, green and lush, growing bigger and faster than anything else in the neighborhood.

I asked her how she achieved this feat and her answer was simple:

“Fertilizer.”

Of course, this is the logical answer.

For gardeners, fertilizing plants is the quintessential act of following through.

If you’re going to go through all the trouble of gardening, then you might as well follow through and fertilize, too.

But even a modest container garden requires a lot of work - the procurement of supplies, the sowing of seeds, the planting of plants, routine watering, maintenance like weeding - it would be understandable if a final step was skipped

Having the discipline to complete each step in a process - to follow through - is often what separates the average from the exceptional.

Both in gardening and in business.
