August 2025

At the start of every new year, I look at the calendar and try to decide when I will take holidays.

January me is always committing to August in the city.

Next year, I want this to change.

Firstly, I’m not opposed to working through the month of August, or half of it, and I should be able to work from any location.

Secondly, wherever I go must have air conditioning. I have gritted my teeth through the aircon-less summers in Germany for six years now, and I no longer have it in me. On this measure, I am American, through and through.

Finally, whatever I do in August must involve slowness. Ease. A willingness to lessen the pace of life in order to replenish my energy stores and my enthusiasm for the return to full capacity in September.
