Never Follow the Crowd Again

I was standing at a crosswalk today, watching the flow of traffic.

I knew that once the left hand turn lane began their left hand turns, the remaining lanes would have red lights for about thirty seconds. This was my chance to walk to the median, better poised to scurry across the street once the pedestrian light turned green.

While walking across the street, though, I wondered what someone might think, watching me cross half the street while the pedestrian sign was red.

Instantly, the phrase popped into my head: “Learn to observe patterns and you’ll never follow the crowd again.”

It made me chuckle, but it’s true.

So many hedge fund managers and private equity partners have learned to observe patterns. It’s made them rich.

That’s not exactly my promise, I’m just saying: Learn to look out for the things that other people miss. It might present an opportunity.
