Contradictions

I can never seem to escape the contradictions of this new hybrid working era.

I crave the structure of the office, and the in-person interactions with my colleagues.

But I also find the open office plan to be incompatible with deep work, especially when those around me are on back-to-back Teams calls.

On the flip side, home office is great for tasks that require my uninterrupted focus, but the lack of human interaction can leave me feeling adrift at times.

I have extroverted and introverted tendencies.

I get energy from the excitement and passion that others bring to their specialty areas. But I also need time to digest what they’ve shared, and to conceptualize how their piece of the business fits into the rather complex puzzle that is our industry.

But mostly, I just feel alone in experiencing these contradictory feelings about hybrid working.

Most folks seem afraid of losing the freedom of home office, and so they dare not speak of its shortcomings.
