A Luddite Reconsiders A.I.

I’m rather skeptical about Artificial Intelligence.

The technology has real use cases, don’t get me wrong.

But the hugely hyped future in which all of our jobs are replaced by A.I.?

I just don’t see it.

Skepticism can close you off, though.

The challenge I’ve been working to overcome is how to utilize A.I. for its marginal use cases while remaining distrustful of the overblown promises about its future applications.

Because it is useful - helping to generate synonyms, brainstorm ideas, build topical lists - and there’s no reason that healthy skepticism should prevent me from those benefits.
