On To The Next One

I’m on a journey to overcome perfectionism.

The kind that prevents me from producing work.

I’m learning that having a limited amount of time for a project makes it easier to confront the procrastinator tendencies of perfectionism. Having to make creative decisions quickly forces you to be less precious, requires you to assess what you’ve got and make a move.

In the past, I attempted to create artificial deadlines. But they were artificial, and I blew right past them.

Now, I’m attempting to adhere to something like a schedule or editorial calendar. And the thing that has replaced those artificial deadlines is the simple reality that there’s another project waiting in line. If I go a week without producing work, I won’t have blown through just one deadline, but three.

In order to respect my goals and the entire month of work I hope to produce, well, that means I have to make some artistic choices. That means I have to learn to live with good enough, instead of absolutely perfect.
