But What If It’s Bad?

A quote comes to mind:

"What if I fail?

Oh, but darling, what if you fly?"

Eleven words that pop up in various corners of the internet to model positivity, perseverance, and hope. It’s also frequently used by online life coaches. If I've learned anything during my coming of age as a consumer and participant in the digital economy, it's that I never want to be an online life coach.

The internet transformed the range of opportunities available to humans. But all this choice can be overwhelming.

What should I invest my time in?

How can I best share my talents?

Which of these paths is for me?

I've spent many years observing, and thinking, and mostly figuring out what I don't want to do. With my time. My talents. My reputation.

Of course my conclusion was a simple one. I want to write. I want to do this - showing up at the keyboard everyday, and pressing publish. Even if I’m not ready. Even if my writing isn't perfect.
