Baselines

I know a lot of people who are perceived as quiet or reserved. 

It’s their baseline. 

But if you show them that you’re curious about their opinions, and give them a little space, they will open up and become almost impossible to silence. 

This is the thing about baselines - they are a starting point - for temperament, ability, all sorts of things. 

What they are not, though, is a prison.

Under the right set of circumstances, they may cease to matter altogether.
