A Ruse

In America, the police are allowed to lie to you. 

The technical term for this is “using a ruse.” They do it to obtain confessions, or to gather evidence. Either way, it’s despicable and unethical. 

People are always wondering what happened to trust in society. They all have different theories, related to politics or economics or women entering the workforce. 

What it really comes down to, though, is fairness. 

Human beings can sense when a situation is fair to all parties involved. And no matter the drumbeat of positivity or the growth of GDP or the party in power, unfairness will always move us to behave differently, more self-interested, less concerned with the good of the collective society.
